The Hofstra men’s soccer team dropped their second straight match Friday night, falling 2-0 to No. 11 Boston College in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.
Despite outshooting the Eagles 21-12, Hofstra, now 1-2, was unable to tally a goal in another out-of-conference matchup, now having no goals in two consecutive road battles.
No shots were put on goal until the 14th minute, an attempt by the Pride’s Joseph Holland off a corner kick.
The Eagles found themselves on the scoreboard three minutes later, a clever effort by sophomore forward Simon Enstrom, who found the back of the net after navigating the ricochet from teammate Zeiko Lewis’ shot that was saved by Hofstra goalkeeper Leonard Arkhanhelskyi.
The 17th minute goal was Enstrom’s second of the young season.
Not much action came from either side entering halftime after the opening goal, with the Pride leading in shots 7-4, but trailing 1-0.
Hofstra came back out in the latter half of the match with even more offensive prowess than the first 45 minutes of play, posting 14 shots against the Eagles’ defensive unit. Unfortunately for the Pride, none of those shots translated into a goal to knot it all up at one.
Boston College managed to tack on an insurance goal extremely late in the match, a goal scored in the 90th minute by senior Maximilian Schulze-Geisthovel, making it near impossible for the Pride to make a comeback in stoppage time.
For the match, Joseph Holland and Simon Enstrom led all shooters with five shots and two shots on goal each.
For the Pride, Oscar Ramsay totaled three shots with two on target and Luke Brown added four shots with one on goal.
Younes Boudadi, Trevor Davock, Zeiko Lewis and Raphael Salama all contributed one shot for Boston College.
Hofstra goalkeeper Leonard Arkhanhelskyi recorded three saves in his collegiate debut as a starter.
On the opposing side, Cedric Saladin posted his second shutout of the season with six saves.
Hofstra stays put in the state of Massachusetts, as they take on Harvard Sunday at 4 p.m.
