Support the Troops
To the Editor:
I have to agree with Clark Goldband (My soldier 12/2/2004). Do not forget our men and women in the service. In addition to the Web site Clark mentioned, I would like to mention these also: http://ustroopcarepackage.com/ http://treatsfortroops.com http://www.soldiersangels.org/heroes/index.php http://opgratitude.com/website/html/index.php http://uso.org/pubs/8_18_23.cfm We started a collection in the Computer Center to donate to one of these organizations and the response was overwhelming. I know there are a lot of different political opinions among us but it was nice to see that so many people still care about our men and women that are risking their lives overseas.
Sincerely,
Ray McClure IT Security Project Manager
Bill of Rights Bugs
To the Editor:
Since the beginning of my senior year when I moved into this single in Bill of Rights, I have had an infestation of big flies almost every other day. From the start of September I have woken up to the sound of flies buzzing between the blinds and the window. I never open my windows nor do I leave food hanging around.
This problem is not just in my room, it is throughout the whole building. I have many friends in Bill of Rights who live on different floors and have reported having flies, spiders, and other weird critters flying around and crawling on the carpet/floor.
In addition, I am one of three people I know who have had a mouse in their room. All three of us keep a clean room with no open food lying around. A friend of mine has received small bites all over her body and breaks out into hives whenever she steps into her room, and there is a glue pad in the lounge where people make their food and wash their clothes.
My R.A. did a great job of calling an exterminator, but the exterminator merely came in and planted glue pads and left no notice that he had come by. I had no idea that anything had been done until I happened to spot the glue pad myself.
Exterminators have been called to resolve the bug issue and still more bugs come. The extermination job is poor if you ask me. When I reported this to Reslife, the assistant director told me that the exterminator is a professional at what he does and handles the buildings the way he would someone’s home or apartment. If he feels that putting down a glue pad or handling insects the way he does is sufficient, then that’s what will be done.
I was a little disturbed by this response. Even if Reslife can’t tell the exterminator what to do, they should do something themselves or take this issue seriously the way it should be taken.
This is a big issue which surpasses the A.D. or R.D. of Bill of Rights. It also surpasses the exterminator. I feel this should be broadcasted so the A.D. of Reslife understands that this is serious and that for the amounts of money students pay, we should not be living in bug infested dorms. Perhaps this is bigger than Bill of Rights. I have decided to create a list of all Bill of Rights residents who have had a bug/rodent problem while living here and I would appreciate it if an article was written about this issue possibly with the list.
Sincerely,
