The Hofstra men’s basketball team returns home on Saturday, Dec. 16, to host the Norfolk State University Spartans. The Pride is coming off an 89-68 loss to the Duke University Blue Devils on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
Despite the loss, Darlinstone Dubar put up 24 points against Duke, including a career high seven 3-pointers that put him in double-digits in all ten games for the Pride this season. He is the sole owner of the No. 1 spot of rebounds per game at 6.6.
Hofstra shot at a 50% from the floor, a huge factor on why the Blue Devils only held a six-point lead at the half.
Tyler Thomas also had 18 points for Hofstra, marking the ninth time this season he has reached double-digits. He leads the team’s scoring with 23 points per game.
The floor general, Jaquan Carlos, is coming off a 10-point performance against Duke and averages a conference-leading seven assists per game, good for seventh in the nation.
On the other side, the Spartans are coming off an 84-78 loss against Stony Brook University which took place on Wednesday, Dec. 13. This put a screeching halt to the team’s three-game win streak momentum and drops them to 7-4 on the season.
Jamarii Thomas had a 28-point performance over in Suffolk County, going 9-for-11 including 5-for-6 on 3-pointers. Just like the Pride, the Spartans shot 50% in their previous game.
Be sure to watch out for the Spartan bench, as substitutes scored 27 points against the Seawolves.
Jamarii Thomas leads the way in scoring for Norfolk State, averaging 20 points-per-game while also averaging 3.8 assists-per-game. Rebounds are mostly handled by Jaylani Darden, who leads the team with his average 6.5-per-game.
The Pride hopes that the home cooking can get the team back to winning ways on Saturday, Dec. 16, at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
