The Hofstra Pride men’s basketball team is white-hot right now, as they have won six in a row and are looking to extend their longest winning streak of the season to seven games on Saturday when they travel to face the Monmouth University Hawks.
Hofstra and Monmouth last played each other in Hempstead on Jan. 11, where the Pride won 77-57, with Tyler Thomas and Warren Williams each scoring 18 points in the contest. As a unit, the Pride shot 56%rom the field and 40% from beyond the arc in the win.
Since then, Hofstra has gone 7-1 and is coming off a 72-53 victory over Northeastern on Wednesday. While Thomas led the team with 18 points to go along with 13 from Aaron Estrada, the star of the show was sophomore Jaquan Carlos, who flirted with a triple-double, scoring ten points with nine assists and nine rebounds.
Monmouth is another team looking to continue its momentum. After starting conference play 0-8, the Hawks have won their last four games, with the most recent coming in an upset over Stony Brook University, 61-54, on Wednesday. Myles Foster posted his 18th double-digit point total this season for the Hawks, and Tahron Allen was one point away from a career-high with 22.
Heading into Saturday’s contest, Hofstra is 11-2 against the rest of the conference, tying them with the College of Charleston and is almost guaranteed a bye in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) tournament at this point. Meanwhile, Monmouth is just 4-8 against the CAA thus far into its first year as a conference member.
Tip-off from West Long Branch, NJ, is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be televised on SNY and streamed on FloHoops, while WRHU will air an audio-only broadcast on the Hofstra Alternative Web Channel. Live stats can be found on GoHofstra.com.
