Following a strong win on the road to begin Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play, the Hofstra men’s basketball team returns to the David S. Mack Sports & Exhibition Complex on New Year’s Eve to face North Carolina A&T for their first home game against a conference opponent this season.
Hofstra cruised to an 87-73 victory at the reigning conference champion University of Delaware Blue Hens on Thursday night, powered by another stellar performance from Aaron Estrada. The redshirt senior poured in 31 points on 11-17 shooting for his third 30-point game of the season, while Tyler Thomas added another 20 and Jaquan Carlos led the team with seven rebounds and eight assists in the win. Carlos has quietly been the Pride’s best facilitator this season, leading the team with 4.5 assists per game, good enough for fourth best in the CAA, and has dished out a combined 26 over his last three games.
The Aggies come into Saturday’s matchup with a 5-9 overall record and hope to snap a four-game losing streak with their first road win of the season. NC A&T fell to Northeastern University, 88-76, last time out despite a 23-point performance from sophomore guard Kam Woods, the third leading scorer in the CAA who averages 17.8 points per game.
The Pride and Aggies play a similar brand of basketball, as they are respectively first and third in the CAA in team three-point percentage and are each within the top five of the conference in team three-point attempts. Simultaneously, both teams are in the conference’s bottom half in terms of rebounding numbers.
Tip-off on Saturday is scheduled for 1 p.m. The game will air on FloHoops, and 88.7 FM WRHU will carry an audio-only broadcast on the Hofstra Alternative Web Channel. Live stats can be found on GoHofstra.com.
