The Hofstra University Pride men’s basketball team will look to make it three straight wins to start the season as they are visited by the George Washington University Colonials on Monday, Nov. 14, at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Both teams come into the contest with wins in their first two games and both are in search of their third win to start the season.
Hofstra enters this matchup coming off a huge win over the Rick Pitino-coached Iona University Gaels. The Pride shot 49% from the floor and 48% from three in the victory. The Pride also connected on multiple big shots, including a big 3-pointer with just under a minute to go by redshirt senior Tyler Thomas which broke the tie and put the game away for the Pride.
Hofstra made up for their lack of height with lights out shooting. Despite scoring zero second chance points in Friday night’s contest, the Pride were still able to put up 83 points against the Gaels, en route to an 83-78 victory.
The Colonials are also out to a 2-0 start this year, collecting victories over both Virginia State and Howard University. George Washington collected an 85-75 point win over the Howard Bison, with Ricky Lindo Jr. leading the Colonials in scoring with 19. Maximus Edwards finished with 18, and Brendan Adams finished the contest with 14 points.
This is Hofstra’s first game against George Washington since 2016. The Pride faced off with the Colonials in the first round of the 2016 National Invitational Tournament (NIT), where George Washington secured a nail biting 82-80 victory over the Pride. Juan’ya Green led the Pride with 26 points that day. Hofstra is 1-3 all-time against George Washington, with their only win coming on Jan. 7, 1983, so Hofstra will be looking for their first victory over GWU in nearly 40 years.
Hofstra is also looking to jump out to a 3-0 start, something they haven’t done since the 2015-16 season, when they beat Canisius College, Molloy College and Florida State University to start the 2015 campaign.
The game is scheduled to tip off at approximately 7 p.m.
