To the Editor:
The Chronicle’s Oct. 14, 2004 feature, “College Republicans Lead the Right-Wingers” conveys inaccuracies about Hofstra College Republicans and President Bush.
Without any pretense or fear of offending, the Hofstra College Republicans:Revere the men and women of the United States Armed Forces, and stand in awe of their bravery, skill, and professionalism. We aspire to the greatness that the U.S. servicemen achieve daily.
We aren’t overly fond of the mainstream media because journalists should do better than fake but accurate and fairly unbalanced as displayed by CBS, ABC, and now The Chronicle.
Believe that the war on terrorism is the most pressing issue of our time, and that President Bush is the best person to stop terrorists.
Believe in the importance of college education, but we don’t support its being treated just as an entitlement, instead of being worked for and worked at.
Contrary to Chronicle reporting, Pell grants increased by 1.3 million students with a funding increase of nearly 60 percent under President Bush.
These statistics can be found at the University of Pennsylvania’s FactCheck.org (www.factcheck.org/article281.html).
By and large, we don’t support slavery reparations, unfair preferences, or race baiting and we don’t think that makes us insensitive, racist, or even bad people. We believe that equality should be just that, equal!
Above all, Hofstra College Republicans believe in America. The United States of America is freedom’s greatest example, and Hofstra College Republicans know this to be entirely accurate.
Sincerely,
Joshua L. Kahn
