Bobby Seck will undergo MRI on his knee Wednesday at ProHealth in Lake Success, NY. Wednesday, Joe Gardi stopped short of saying that Seck would be lost for the season, and said there is potential for him to come back in 2-4 weeks. For now, Anton Clarkson is the starter.
Tape of Bad Calls
As expected, Joe Gardi opted to send a copy of three major penalty calls to Atlantic 10 league’s supervisor of Football Officials, Jim Maconaghy. The calls made by the officials proved to decide the game for the Pride, one of which was a call on James Glee. Tape from the game shows that Glee waited until Sidney Haugabrook caught the ball before he made the tackle. The other penalties include the pass interference call with 3:53 left in the game by sophomore safety David Darby, and doubtful contact by freshman corner Kyle Arrington on a punt which gave Delaware the ball back on the Pride 42-yard line. Arrington had already passed the ball, and Delaware players did not react as though the ball just touched a player on the other team.
“I ran past the ball and it took a bounce back. The field judge said it didn’t hit me but they huddled and they overturned the call. I wasn’t anywhere near it,” Arrington said.
Saturday’s crew were not A-10 referees, rather, they were from the Big East conference. Jim Maconaghy was not immediately available for comment.
Onorato
Place kicker Chris Onorato, who was named A-10 special teams player of the week, was also named ESPN/USA Today I-AA special teams player of the week Tuesday. Onorato continued his steady play against Delaware and was responsible for 12 of the Pride’s 19 points. He has made 7 of 9 attempted field goals. Gardi makes it a point to have an All-American type kicker on the team because of its history of not being a good goal-line team.
The New Hampshire Wildcats’ are still the 15th-ranked team in I-AA despite suffering a loss last week to the University of Massachusetts Minutemen, 38-21 in Durham.
“We’ve got to have no turnovers, control the ball, and we have to have a great game from our quarterback in order to beat them, they are a very good team,” Gardi said.
UNH freshman quarterback Ricky Santos has immediately become an A-10 impact player. He and Mike Granieri shared time in the loss to the Minutemen, but coach Sean McDonnell is expected to opt for the freshman over the senior on Saturday. The Wildcats beat Delaware in their season opener 24-21.
