After reviewing the Public Safety phone call log, Ed Bracht, the director of Public Safety, said Joann Carie, a manager at Dutch Treats, did make a call to Public Safety on Sunday, Sept. 12, the day it was robbed.
“A further review of the records about the closing of Dutch Treats revealed that a call was made,” Bracht said. “Subsequently the closing procedure was reviewed to insure that notification to card services is made to shut down the system.”
If Dutch Treats needs to close, the manager will call Public Safety who will page or call Chris Westby, the director of HofstraCard Services, to tell him to turn off the swipe machine.
Currently, only the full-time HofstraCard staff members have access to the network from home, but soon Bracht will also have access, so Westby will no longer need to be notified.
