The announcements counting down the number of shopping days to Christmas have begun. Black Friday has come and gone, the malls are packed from the time they open until the time they close, and all the nutty holidays shoppers have descended upon us. I’m here to making shopping this holiday season easier, much easier. I’ve done all the research you need, and come up with the top 10 or so items that you can’t go wrong with.
The mini iPod:
These little MP3 players are impossible to escape. On the subway, walking to class, or at the gym, everyone is bopping their head along to these teeny toys. They hold up to 1000 songs, come in five colors, and fit in the palm of your hand. They are about $100 cheaper than the full-size iPod, also. But if you’re worried 1000 songs won’t be enough of a selection for your ears, there is a brand new full-size iPod debuting for the holidays; the new 60GB iPod can hold upto 25,000 pictures as many as 15,000 songs, serving as a digital camera as well as a MP3 player.
“I can’t wait to get an iPod. It will be so fun to have something so small when I travel,” said sophomore marketing major Jennifer Gettlin.
Accessories Accessories
Accessories:
Now that you have your must-have iPod, you’re going to need all the fabulous accessories to go with it. First and foremost, a case to carry it around in. Burberry debuted their coordinating his and hers mini iPod cases in the traditional black and beige plaid or the new light pink and beige plaid. Coach also a leather case for the full-size and the mini iPods, available in snakeskin, brown, and navy leather. Also, you’re going to need to listen to your iPod in the car, so iTrip is another necessity. This tiny receiver plugs into your iPod and then can be set to the same radio station as your car is playing, and viola-you’re ready to hit the road!
“I asked for the new 60GB iPod for Christmas, but then I started to get worried it will get scratched, so I think a case is going to be a must. And if you have an iPod, you have to have the iTrip so you can listen to all your music anywhere,” James Farrell, a sophomore accounting major, said.
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and Halo 2:
Now all you guys out there understand how important the release of Halo 2 was. It occupied you for days, and the best part: you can play it live with your friends from near and far. There is a microphone which allows you to communicate with other players across the country. Then there is Grand Theft Auto, a game which some have called the best Play Station 2 game ever. It provides the greatest accuracy, more story and plot, and too many mini-games to keep track of.
A flat screen television:
No longer would you need to go to Bogart’s or Champions for Monday Night Football with one of these in your dorm room. There are ridiculously clear pictures on these new televisions will make you feel like you are running through the Temple of Doom right along with Indiana Jones.
Seinfeld on DVD-Seasons one through three:
Seinfeld is the show about nothing, but to New Yorkers it is the show about everything. Seinfeld is about more than a television show, especially to those who call New York City home.
The O.C. Season One on DVD:
And for those facing the other ocean, The O.C. is the primetime soap opera. Its fanatics include both guys and girls, so it’s a sure fit for just about anyone. With the second season attracting even more viewers than the first, there are a lot of fans out there with quite a bit of catching up to do!
“Season One is great on DVD because whenever I’m not feeling great I can just pop in the DVD and there is Adam Brody, who always makes me smile!” said sophomore public relations major Lindsay Brandt.
Digital Camera:
Gone are the days of running to CVS or Wal-Mart and waiting impatiently while your pictures are developing; only to find that out of 24 pictures, only two were frame-worthy. There are so many compact and high quality cameras on the market. The Sony Cyber-Shot camera ($499) can fit into your back pocket and takes 5.0 mega pixel pictures, which turn out better than many 35mm photos do. If you’re looking for a less expensive camera, Sony has a variety of other models, as well as Canon and Kodak.
Red Sox World Series Champs:
It hasn’t happened since 1918, and just in case it doesn’t happen again for another 86 years, I think memorabilia is a must. So head over to Niketown and grab all the hats, shirts, and jerseys your arms can carry, because who knows when this will happen again.
Sony Vaio Laptop:
These super light-weight and super high-tech computers start at about $1,800 and as light as 3.1 pounds. That’s light enough for any college kid to throw in their backpack and go. With wireless capabilities, it enhances your ability and allows you to roam not only around campus, but the country, with no strings attached!
Whether you’re looking for something big or small, there are plenty of options for this holiday season. So start stuffing those stocking and lighting your candles, because the holiday countdown has begun.
