Pride complete sweep with 11-1 win over Hampton

On Sunday. April 16, the Hofstra Softball team completed a three-game series with Hampton, winning the final game 11-1. The Pride bats came alive during the series as they combined for 23 total combined runs in the three games. This is Hofstra’s second sweep of the year and improves their conference record to 10-5 and 18-22 overall. Center fielder Chelsea Manto went 3-3 with two runs, one RBI as well as two stolen bases . Manto is batting over .300 with 36 hits on the year.

Hofstra scored three quick runs to open the first inning, highlighted by an RBI double off the bat of shortstop Alanna Morse. Morse had a a strong afternoon, collecting two hits and scoring twice as well. The Pride tacked on another run in the second, pushing the lead to 4-0. The Pride continued to expand their lead in the third, scoring three more to take a 7-0 lead and blow the game open.

Hampton went on to score their only run of the game on a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth off the bat of shortstop Nicole Ley. Pisapia had a strong outing finishing with four innings pitched, one earned run and four hits. Julia Apsel came in relief and allowed only one hit and no runs over the final two innings of the game.

During the top of the 6th inning, the bats once again came alive for the Pride as a couple of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly led to four runs. The Pride, now up 11-1, took three quick outs during the bottom half of the inning and closed this one out in six innings.

The Pride will now begin a big three game home set against conference opponent Elon University. The first game will take place at 12 p.m. on Saturday April 22, at Bill Edwards Stadium, in Hempstead, N.Y. Followed by the second game of the Saturday doubleheader at 2:30 p.m. The Pride will look to continue their four game winning streak as well as continue improving their conference record late into the season.
