Hofstra hosts Premier Lacrosse League Semifinals

Hofstra University’s James M. Shuart Stadium played host to the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) Stadium on Sunday, September 10, 2023, for the PLL semifinals.

Archers blows the Redwoods out of the Water

“A full team effort, you first have to start on the defensive end,” said Archers head coach Chris Bates in reference to Archers goalie Brett Dobson and his 18 saves throughout all four periods. “You can’t give those guys enough credit because they set the tone; the mindset is right on point and the game plan is right on point and they believe in each other.”

“Great team win all around,” said attacker Mac O’Keefe.

In the first half of the doubleheader, the Archers controlled the pace of the entire game against Redwoods, in which the Archers won 14-6. Archers’ Grant Ament scored first, and the rest of the team followed suit in a 4-0 shutout first quarter. In the second stanza the script was flipped, where both squads traded three points each including a two-point shot from Tre Leclaire.

After a productive halftime break, the Archers gave spectators a repeat of the first inning by producing another 4-0 shutout of the Redwoods in the third period. The fourth quarter was a last-ditch effort for the Redwoods. The final quarter was three points traded each way for a final score of 14-6.

The Waterdogs Got that Dawg in Them

The Waterdogs beat the Cannons in with a final score of 17-6.

“Really proud of our guys,” said Waterdogs head coach Andy Copelan. “I thought we had an awesome week of prep.”

In the opening quarter saw the Waterdogs take a 3-1 lead over the Cannons. The second quarter, save for the two-pointer by Aslanian, was all Waterdogs, who scored six unanswered points from Michael Sowers, Connor Kelly, Ethan Walker and Kieran McArdle.

The Waterdogs added seven points in the third quarter while the Cannons could only muster up one.

“I liked the explosiveness that we played in the third quarter in particular,” Copelan said. “Excited to be back in Philly.”

In the fourth, the Cannons scored two points to the Waterdogs’ one.
