Jaquan Carlos hits the transfer portal

The Hofstra men's basketball team has lost their star point guard to the transfer portal. Junior Jaquan Carlos announced on Monday, March 25, that he will leave the Pride after spending his entire collegiate career with Hofstra.

The Brooklyn-born player made Hofstra his home, averaging 4.6 assists per game over his three-year career to solidify himself as the leader of the Pride’s offense.

The 2023-2024 season was one to remember for the point guard. Carlos was an ironman for the Pride starting all 32 games this season, a first in his Hofstra career. Along with averaging a career-high 6.3 assists per game, Carlos dished out a conference-record 19 assists in the team’s win over Northeastern University.

Facilitating the offense wasn’t the only aspect of the game Carlos impacted, as he was a pest on defense. Carlos made it his mission to disrupt his opponents’ game plan, as he led the Pride in steals all season with 1.3 per game.

For his defensive work he also landed the CAA All-Defensive Team twice in his career at Hofstra.

With Carlos’ announcement, Hofstra is losing six players. Tyler Thomas, Jacco Fritz and Bryce Washington are graduating, and Darlinstone “Dstone” Dubar and Griffin Barrouk are also entering the transfer portal.
