The Hofstra University softball team lost their fourth game of the weekend, 11-3, to University of Oklahoma. The Sooners once again mercy ruled the Pride, this time on a walk-off home run.
Hofstra had their hottest start of the season against the Sooners. After leadoff hitter Chelsea Villar was hit by a pitch, first baseman Dahlia Palacio rocketed a double. The Pride put up two runs courtesy of a bunt single and an RBI groundout. The Sooners quickly answered back, scoring four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning.
The runs didn’t stop there as Alanna Morse started off the second inning with her first home run since the 2023 season, which brought the Pride within one. It was all Sooners after that thanks to a bunt single and a double to right field where Oklahoma extended the lead back to two. The Sooners scored seven unanswered runs to end the game, with a final score of 11-3.
Haley Venturini started the game for the Pride and it was her third appearance of the season. She only pitched 0.2 innings, finishing the day with four earned runs bringing her season ERA up to 10.50.
While the bats for the Pride have been up and down to start the year, the top of the lineup is putting in good work. Four games into the season, five Hofstra players have posted a batting average above .270. Morse and Mackenzie Fitzgerald, have an OPS above 1.000. The one and two hitters for Hofstra look to continue their hot start to the year.
The Pride looked to get back at Baylor University in their matchup on Feb. 16.
