The Hofstra University softball team blanked Stony Brook University, winning 6-0 on Saturday, April 26. The Pride are now over .500 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play, improving to 12-11.
The Pride got on the board in the third inning as Alanna Morse ripped a double down the left field line to score Chelsea Villar who worked a walk earlier in the inning. Dahlia Palacio blasted her first college career home run to increase Hofstra’s lead by three.
Carley Ernst was lights-out for the Pride, shutting down the Seawolves offense, preventing the next 13 batters from scoring.
Hofstra increased their lead to four in the sixth. Villar launched an RBI double into the left field gap, scoring Nicole Cancel. In the seventh, the Pride added a pair of insurance runs, as Morse and Mackenzie Fitzgerald came around to score after a throwing error by Madelyn Stepski.
Ernst pitched the seventh inning, closing the game and earning her second complete game of the season, striking out six batters and only allowing three hits.
The Pride looked to take the series against Stony Brook at University Field on Sunday, April 27. First pitch was scheduled for 2 p.m.
