The Hofstra University softball team won against Drexel University 3-1 in the first game of the doubleheader on Friday, April 4. The Pride improved to 9-21 on the season, while Drexel fell to 2-28.
The Pride opened the game with a bang, scoring two runs in the first inning. Emma Falen got the start for the Pride and pitched a 1-2-3 first inning, striking out Zoe Krizan and Kylah Reading to start the game.
Dahlia Palacio doubled to center field and scored after Anna Butler drove a 3-2 pitch over the right field wall to give Hofstra a 2-0 lead.
Alanna Morse led off the second inning with a single to left field and swiped second to record her fourth stolen base of the season. Lily Yepez ripped a single in the gap in left field, scoring Morse after an obstruction error by Kelsie Peters.
Neither team managed to generate much offense after the Pride added to their lead in the second inning until Drexel answered with one run in the sixth.
Falen started the sixth inning with two quick outs, as Peters lined out to short and Izzy Alamillo flew out to left field. Krizan got the offense going with a double, scoring on an RBI double by Reading.
Falen dominated against the Dragons’ offense, striking out six through six innings and pitching into the seventh as she looked for her second complete game of the season.
Devyn Demchak led off the inning with a to Morse. The next batter, Annabelle Smink, worked a walk, ending Falen’s outing. Carley Ernst came in relief to get the final two outs on six pitches, earning her fourth save of the season.
The Pride looked to sweep the doubleheader later on April 25, to continue their hot stretch. The first pitch was set for 4:25 p.m. at Bill Edwards Stadium.
