A LOOK INSIDE THE TRIP
Throughout the Pride’s road trip many interesting stories developed. Sophomore Gary Flood played in the first 25 collegiate games of his career, and the streak ended with less than ten minutes remaining in the Clemson win because of high humidity and travel fatigue. He came up one game short of tying the school record of 26 set by Arni Gunnarsson in 2002. In the same game, goalie Matthias Gumbrecht matched his career high in shutouts (four). Michael Todd went down with a knee injury midway through the trip, but bounced back and helped out on two scoring chances for the Pride. The Pride’s five wins is one more than last season’s total.
AGAINST RANKED OPPONENTS
Since joining the CAA three years ago, the Pride has a 3-6-1 record against nationally ranked opponents. In those ten games, all but one was decided by a single goal, this occurred in a 3-0 loss to VCU in 2002.
WHAT’S LEFT?
Only five games remain in the Pride’s season, all, of course, against CAA teams. James Madison University is the only opponent capable of giving the Pride a tough time, since its 12-0-1 overall this season. Delaware is in the basement of the CAA, Towson sits just above the Pride, while George Mason (6-7-1) and Drexel (3-9-0) are right below. With potential victories in four of its last five games, the Pride could make some playoff noise in the CAA. History is against the Pride. In the last three seasons, in its last five games of the season, the Pride has only won a combined three games. Ouch.
AGAINST UNCW
The Pride owns the all-time record against the Seahawks with a 2-0-1 record. Since the Pride has only been in the CAA for three seasons it has limited appearances against many of the current teams they play. The first meeting between these teams came in 2002 resulting in a 1-0 Pride win, and the second in 2003 was a double overtime 0-0 thriller.
