AWARDS AND ACCOLADES-
In addition to Tessa Sphar winning CAA Player of the Week honors, freshman setter Shellane Ogoshi earned the CAA Rookie of the Week. This was Ogoshi’s first time winning the award, despite having a stellar freshman campaign thus far this season. She leads the Pride in assists with 820 and digs with 237. Also, Ogoshi is second in the conference in assists, averaging 11.88 per game and ninth in digs with 3.43 per game. If that’s not enough, she also leads the team in double-doubles with 14.
UNLUCKY FRIDAY THE 13th-
Friday’s 3-1 match win over James Madison University snapped the Dukes 13-game home winning streak, dating back to the middle of last season. The Pride stumbled in the first game and lost 26-30 before coming back and winning the next three straight games 30-25, 30-23, 30-27.
CHANGE IN GAME TIME-
The game time of Friday’s home match against Towson University had to be moved up two hours from 7 p.m. to 5 p.m. so that head coach Fran Kalafer could get to the Garden City Hotel to receive her award for 2004 Hofstra University Honorary Alumna of the Year. The award is given out once a year in recognition of outstanding service to Hofstra or the Alumni Organization.
