Clemson transfer forward Ibrahim Djambo will not play for the Hofstra men’s basketball team during the fall semester, citing he will be away to attend to “family matters.”
The 6’10” senior was due to make his debut in a Pride uniform this November, after sitting out last season due to NCAA transfer rules.
He will be back in his home country of Mali to attend to the issues cited in a press release posted by the Hofstra Athletic Department on Friday.
Concern for Djambo arose last Monday during Hofstra basketball’s first public practice, where number 42 was nowhere to be found.
Djambo created excitement in the program, as another near-seven-foot athlete that could cause problems near the basket, while also possessing three-point shooting ability.
He would only have one year of eligibility remaining should he return, and there is no knowledge as to his possibility of returning to the team in 2016.
Djambo averaged under two points in an average of nine minutes per game in his final season with the Tigers of Clemson, South Carolina.
The absence will also thin out a previously deep lineup of players at the forward and/or center position.
With the graduation of starting center Moussa Kone, sophomore big men Rokas Gustys and Andre Walker will be expected to take on more significant roles.
Add to that, eligible Princeton transfer Denton Koon, who also is playing his final year of college ball in 2015-16.
Gustys averaged 5.2 points and 5.7 boards in over 19 minutes per game, while Koon had 7.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 22-plus minutes.
