Two males riding an ATV were struck by a Nissan Altima at the intersection of Hempstead Turnpike and California Ave. at approximately 9 p.m.
The identities of the two victims have not been released due to an impending investigation. One of the victims was 16-years-old, according to a police officer at the scene.
The three people in the car, non-Hofstra students, say they didn’t see the ATV coming.
“We were on a green, going 50 mph, and he came out of nowhere,” said Michelle Serrano, the 18-year-old passenger in the car. The other passenger, who only identified himself as Francisco agreed.
Serrano claims that her boyfriend, Geobani Martinez, 28, had the green light while driving straight on the turnpike.
A witness told the police that the ATV driver ran the red light, according to Serrano.
“If your car was any higher, they would have been dead”, the officer said.
Both of the males on the ATV will survive, although one is in serious condition, according to the officer.
“Both femurs are broken, his head’s split open,” he said. However, the condition of either victim has yet to be officially released.
The ATV allegedly ran the red light to make a left onto the turnpike from California Ave.
The three people in the car were on their way to attend a soccer game on campus. An event, they say, their church was orchestrating.
