The deadline for registering to vote in New York is approaching fast and University students hoping to vote in this year’s presidential election, which will take place on Nov. 2, should not be without key information.
As of Oct. 8, New Yorkers will no longer be allowed to register to vote for this year ‘selection, either by mail or in person.
The New York Board of Elections must receive registration by mail on October 13.
If voters need to change their address, New Yorkers have up until Oct. 13 to do so. The Board of Elections must process this request before the general election. So, this means it is better to get this request in as soon as possible to the board.
Students should contact their local state boards of elections in order to vote by absentee ballot. Often times it is necessary to fill out an application to receive the ballot.
In New York, Oct. 26 is the last day to postmark an application for a ballot and Nov. 1 is the last day to apply for an absentee ballot in person.
Nov. 1 is also the last day to postmark the ballot and the board of elections must receive it no later than Nov. 9. Nov. 2 is the last day to deliver the ballot to the board in person.
The University will be providing vans to take students to polling places on election day.
