The Hofstra women’s basketball team had their first practice of the season on Oct. 5. The last time I witnessed the talented team at work was at their first preseason workout back in September. It was an amazing experience to get to know the team and witness such impeccable talent and skill.
Since they had an astounding preseason, I could only imagine what their practices would be like. As soon as I stepped foot inside the David S. Mack Physical Education Center, I could tell their first practice was going to be a memorable one.
Watching them play basketball is like binge-watching a show on television; you can’t just watch one episode. Before the session began, both the players and the coaches were thrilled to start the first practice of the season, and I was looking forward to seeing how it went.
Practice officially began when the buzzer went off. Before their usual huddle at the center of the gym, the team did their warmup routine.
The ladies went through dynamic stretches, such as high knees, butt kicks, body stretches and mid sprints to start practice off right. When they had their prep talk before going to drills, each player was filled with enthusiasm.
For all two and a half hours of practice, each member of the team gave their best effort to the drills, whether it was working on ball-handling, running a full-court offense, or simply working on individuals in the post and guard positions.
After the members of the Hofstra women’s basketball team were finished with their first practice, the coaches and managers were all enthusiastic to start the season off with a bang. I, along with many others, am excited for what their season has to offer.
The Hofstra women’s basketball team opens up its season playing against Marist University in Hofstra’s David S. Mack Sports Complex on Nov. 11. We’ll get to see if the Pride truly has what it takes to make a run at the CAA title.
