On April 11, a student reported that she parked her vehicle at 2 p.m. in parking field 6. When she returned at 8:40 p.m. she discovered that the there was a dent in the driver side rear corner panel of the fender. There were no witnesses at the time of report. A report was made to the NCPD.
On April 13 at 1:30 a.m., while conducting an inspection in Suffolk Hall, an RA discovered that the elevator button had been vandalized on the first floor. The Plant Department was notified, responded and corrected the problem.
On April 15 at 4 p.m., PS received a report that there was loud screaming coming from a room in Estabrook Hall. PS entered the room and discovered that two students were arguing about a lost ID card. A male student was yelling and screaming at another student. The situation was calmed by PS and the male student was issued a referral to OCS for disorderly conduct.
On April 17, a student reported to Public Safety that at some time between 5:30 and 8 p.m. The Chronicle newspapers were taken from the Student Center, Hammer Lab, C.V. Starr, Estabrook and other places around campus. PS responded and conducted a search. About 350 newspapers were recovered from trash cans and returned to newsstands.
On April 19, at 2 p.m., PS received a report that there was a strong smell of marijuana coming from a room in Suffolk Hall. PS responded and knocked on the door. A towel was observed under the door. The resident opened the door and inside the room, a pipe, grinder and scale were in plain view. The items were confiscated and the resident was issued a referral to OCS.
On April 20, a student stated that at 8:45 a.m. that morning, she parked her vehicle in a parking lot on campus. When she returned at 11:45 a.m., she discovered that the rearview mirror was damaged. There were no witnesses and police assistance was declined at the time of report.
On April 20 at 12:50 p.m., PS received a report that a taped piece of paper had been put on the Thomas Jefferson statue outside of the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center. PS responded and discovered a paper on the statue the with the statement “Black Lives Matter” written on it. They confiscated the paper and an investigation concluded that the person that taped the paper to the statue was a Hofstra student. The student was identified and issued a referral to OCS.
On April 20 at 11:15 p.m., an RA in the Netherlands North reported to PS that there was a physical altercation in Rotterdam house. PS responded to the location and upon arrival, they found two Hofstra students. After being interviewed, both students admitted to an altercation before PS came. Both male students were issued a referral to OCS for their actions.
On April 23 at 3 p.m., a Hofstra faculty member reported that he was a victim of harassment via Facebook by a Hofstra student, who had posted derogatory messages on the social media site. Police assistance was declined at the time of report.
On April 24 at 3 p.m., a campus employee in the Sondra and David S. Mack Student Center observed a Hofstra student attempt to conceal a beverage in her bag and leave without paying for it. The student was stopped, returned the beverage and was issued a referral to OCS.
On April 24 at 4 p.m., while on patrol in Estabrook Hall, a PS officer observed a previously banned non-student inside the residence hall. The non-student was escorted into the Hofstra Information Center and banned from the campus.
On April 24 at 6:35 p.m., a Hofstra student reported that while she was attempting to walk across Hofstra Boulevard at the Colonial Square roadway, a vehicle slowed down and motioned for the student to cross the street. When she attempted to cross the street, the driver revved the engine and went forward toward her while she was crossing. The driver did this twice. The student then ran across the street. The vehicle was described as a blue SUV with unknown plates, driven by an unidentified female. The driver was headed southbound toward Hofstra USA. An investigation is being conducted into this matter.
