In May 2022, the fourth season of “Stranger Things” introduced new characters to viewers. One in particular created mass hysteria worldwide: Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn). Since then, Quinn has gained massive popularity in the acting world. So, how did he get there, and what is he doing next?
Quinn has 12 years of acting experience under his belt. Before his role in “Stranger Things,” Quinn’s work included 13 different shows and movies, as well as three short films and plays. His most recent role was as PC Dixon in “Small Axe,” which premiered in 2020. After the breakout role of Eddie Munson, Quinn signed with Creative Artist Agency (CAA) in August 2022. CAA is home to other stars such as Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Ava DuVernay. It is safe to say that Quinn is in good hands there.
Before Quinn began his career, he attended an independent school in London, England from 2007 to 2012. He was awarded a bursary because he was a part of the school’s drama scholar program. He then attended and graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. After he finished school, he booked several roles. “Dickensian” was his first role outside of school, in which he played Arthur Havisham. It was the lead role in the series that started in December 2015 and ended in February 2016. Quinn has not only acted for the screen; he has also been seen on the stage. He has been involved in three theater plays and was awarded “Best Actor in a Studio Production” in 2017 for his role in “Wish List.” He played the housebound brother of the lead Tasmin, played by Erin Doherty. The first play he starred in was 2016’s “Deathwatch.” He played one of the leads, Maurice. The plot surrounds three prisoners living in the same cell. Green-eyes is the apple of Maurice and Lefranc’s eyes. Lefranc goes as far as to strangle Maurice to get to Green-eyes. This means “Stranger Things” was not Quinn’s first time acting as a character that has been killed.
His 12 years of acting in diverse roles has led him to be able to play arguably his most prominent role: Eddie Munson. When telling how he got the part, Quinn said he sent two audition tapes and that was it. With this new popularity, Quinn says he has felt a lot of pressure. It doesn’t help that this was his first acting role portraying an American teen. Despite how anxious he felt, Quinn provided the world with a lovable character that many can relate to. After Volume Two of “Stranger Things,” the world put their heartbroken words out on social media and even created theories on how the character could come back. The Duffer Brothers, the creators of the show, have publicly stated that Munson was set up for death from the beginning.
Quinn will play Michael in the upcoming indie film “Hoard.” There has not been much information released about the film to the public yet. All that is known is that it will be a drama revolving around a mother-daughter relationship. It is directed by Luna Carmoon and filming has already begun.
Whether or not Quinn will return for season five of “Stranger Things” is unknown, the good news is that it won’t be long before you can see him back on the screen.
