Former left-handed pitcher for the Hofstra University softball team Julia Apsel is taking her talents in the circle to Florida State University for the 2025 season. On Thursday, June 13, Apsel announced on her Instagram account that she would be going to the Seminoles for her final year of eligibility.
The ace is joining the Florida State softball team, which ranked No. 14 in the country this past season. Apsel is leaving behind a legacy on Long Island after posting a dominant 2024 campaign recording a 1.79 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 19-12 record and 176 strikeouts in 201.2 innings pitched.
Apsel carried the Pride on her back in 2023 as they won the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championships which punched their ticket to the Norman Regional in the NCAA Tournament. This past season, Apsel was responsible for 19 of the team’s 23 wins and took them to another CAA Championship, but ultimately fell short.
She completed four seasons with Hofstra, finishing with a career ERA of 3.24, a 35-31 record, 31 complete games, four shutouts, 304 strikeouts and a .254 batting average against in 414 innings pitched.
Apsel has one last shot at competing for a Women’s College World Series Title, but it will be in the Sunshine State. Farewell 17.
