Hofstra University’s baseball team won their sixth game in a row on the road against the Stony Brook University Seawolves 4-0 on Saturday, May 4.
With this win, Hofstra now stands at 10-10 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play.
Carlos Martinez started for the Pride and pitched an absolute gem as he continues his stellar performances against CAA teams as the second starter. Martinez shut out the Seawolves, allowing six hits in eight innings while striking out nine batters. Martinez got the win and now stands at 4-4 on the season.
On the offensive side, Steve Harrington led the team with three hits, a double and one RBI. Behind him, Dylan Palmer and Santino Rosso contributed two hits combined while Will Kennedy smashed a home run with two RBIs.
The Seawolves’ starting pitcher JT Raab received the loss for his contribution to the game. Raab started strong until his outing started to drop off in the later innings. He went six innings, allowing three runs on six hits with only two strikeouts.
The first four innings were silent from both sides. The Pride stormed out in the fifth as Kennedy jumped out and hit a solo bomb over the left field wall to put Hofstra on the board at 1-0.
With some traffic on the bases in the seventh, Kennedy added another RBI to his name with a sacrifice fly to right field to take a 2-0 lead. Matt Pelcher continued the inning by ripping a single through the left side to extend the Pride’s lead to 3-0 in the seventh.
The Pride’s bats stayed hot in the eighth inning with Harrington scorching an RBI double over to left field and capping their score at four runs in a 4-0 game.
With a 4-0 lead, Russell Hunter came in for Martinez to close out the game in the ninth to take Hofstra’s third consecutive CAA series in a row.
Hofstra now ranks sixth in the CAA at a .500 clip, with Stonybrook in fifth with the same record. Coming down to the last two weeks of games, Hofstra continues to stay hot as they climb the CAA rankings.
