After suffering a fifth straight defeat, the Hofstra University women’s basketball team travels to Virginia to take on the Hampton University Pirates on Sunday, Jan. 28.
Head coach Danielle Santos Atkinson’s team has a 1-5 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) record and have a 7-10 record overall.
The Pride suffered a 61-50 loss to the College of William & Mary on Friday, Jan. 26, but Emma Von Essen still made double-digits with 13 points. Von Essen leads the conference in average 3-pointers per game.
Hampton is coming off a loss to Monmouth University after they got their first win of the entire season. The Pirates lost 69-61 at home on Friday, Jan. 26.
Hampton’s Camryn Hill, who is the team’s leading scorer, had 17 points in the effort. Amyah Reaves had a respectable night covering the boards with seven rebounds, all on the defensive end of the court.
The Pirates comes into this game as the lowest-scoring team in the CAA, averaging only 52.4 points per game. They also have given up the third-most points to opponents this year in the conference.
Hill averages 13.4 points per game to lead the Pirates, Reaves averages of 2.3 assists per game and Jenae Dublin is the average rebounder per game leader with 5.4.
Two struggling sides look to get a win on Sunday, Jan. 28, at the Hampton Convocation Center in Hampton, Virginia, with tip-off at 2 p.m.
