The Hofstra University men’s basketball team will look for a three-game win streak on Thursday, Jan. 24, as they host the 7-12 College of William & Mary Tribe at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. The series has been a lopsided one in recent years, as Hofstra has taken eight of the last 10 meetings between these two teams, including the last three.
The Pride are playing well headed into this game, having won their last two games, including an 80-74 road win over Long Island rival Stony Brook University on Monday, Jan. 22. Darlinstone Dubar has stepped up massively for Hofstra during this stretch of conference games, having posted three consecutive double-doubles, with his best performance coming against Stony Brook where Dubar put up 30 points with 11 rebounds, three assists and two blocks.
While Tyler Thomas has had a couple of off games, compared to the sky-high standard that he has set this season, he has still put up solid numbers, with 11 and 14 points, respectively, in Hofstra’s last two games. The man who is tied for the sixth most points per game in the country has scored double-digit points in 18 of 19 games for the Pride.
Jaquan Carlos remains one of the nation’s premier distributors, ranking number 15 in assists per game. But that does not mean that Carlos has not helped his team with his scoring. Carlos put up a career-high 23 points in the win against Stony Brook to go with his six assists. His 11.2 points per game sit only behind Thomas and Dubar for the Pride.
While William & Mary does not have a scorer of the caliber of Thomas or Dubar, they have three players who are solid scorers. Sophomore University of South Florida transfer Trey Moss is the team’s leading scorer with 13.5 points per game. Junior guard Gabe Dorsey is not too far behind with 13.1 points per game. Dorsey also leads the team in rebounds with 6.3 per game. The Tribe’s top scorers are rounded out by Chase Lowe, a sophomore guard. Lowe puts up 12.7 points per game but is coming off an impressive 25-point outing against the Aggies of North Carolina A&T State University. Lowe leads the team in assists and steals with 2.7 and one per game, respectively.
This season has been rough sledding for the Tribe, sitting at 7-12 overall and 2-4 in conference play. They enter this game having lost each of their last three games and six of their last eight.
Tip-off from the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 25.
