The Hofstra University women’s basketball team will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to take on the Drexel University Dragons on Friday, Jan. 19, for the two teams’ first meeting of the season. The Pride comes into the game having lost their last two conference games to Northeastern University and the College of William & Mary. Hofstra sits at 1-2 in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play and 7-7 overall. Meanwhile, Drexel defeated UNC-Wilmington (UNCW) 59-45 on Sunday, Jan. 14, to get back a winning record after a loss at the College of Charleston. The Dragons are 3-1 in conference play and are 8-7 overall.
It has been a long time since the Pride was able to knock off the Dragons; the Dragons have been bogeywomen for the Pride for seven years, and the Daskalakis Athletic Center has been a house of horrors for even longer. Hofstra has lost 11 straight contests to Drexel dating back to the 2016-17 season, and if that streak extended to the last time Hofstra beat Drexel on the road, it would go back to the 2014-15 season.
Villanova University transfer Brooke Mullin leads the Dragons in several significant categories. She is Drexel’s leader in points per game with 13.6, assists per game with 3.6, blocks per game with one and steals per game with 1.2. Against common opponents UNCW and Northeastern, Mullin has scored 18 and 17 points respectively and was shooting above 40% for both games. The only major counting stat that she does not lead the Dragons in is rebounding, which Chloe Hodges leads with 4.9 boards per game.
The Pride hope to turn history around with this game. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. at the Daskalakis Athletic Center on Friday, Jan. 19.
