The Hofstra University men’s basketball team continues their Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) schedule by heading north to Boston, Massachusetts, to face off against the Northeastern University Huskies on Thursday, Jan 11.
The Pride comes into their matchup at 8-7 overall and have a 1-1 CAA record, with a win coming against the University of Delaware and a loss against the College of Charleston.
Up in Boston, the Huskies hold a below-.500 record at 5-10 overall and a 0-2 conference record, falling short in contests against Stony Brook University and Monmouth University. In their last game, Northeastern struggled on the road against Monmouth, losing 81-62 while shooting 35% from the field and 31% from behind the 3-point line.
Sophomore guard Harold Woods led the team in scoring with 16 points and four assists in 26 minutes of action on the court. Behind him, sophomore guard Masai Troutman and graduate forward Chris Doherty scored 13 and 11 points respectively, with Doherty also leading in rebounds with seven.
So far this season, Northeastern has scored an average of 70.7 points per game; however, they have allowed more points on the defensive side with an average of 74.3 points allowed. Doherty leads the team, averaging 12.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
In scoring, Northeastern ranks at the bottom in both offense and defense in CAA records, and the team also struggles from the 3-point line with an average of 6.1 3-pointers made per game. The team is ranked third in the CAA with 75% combined made team free throw attempts.
Hofstra and Northeastern have met 55 times before Thursday’s game. The last time these two teams played was last year, with Hofstra winning two games against the Huskies, 68-65 and 84-52.
