The Hofstra women’s basketball team closes out a three-game homestand Saturday, Dec. 16, as they host the Farmingdale State College Rams.
The Pride currently sit at 4-4 on the season after back-to-back losses to Lehigh University and Iona University. In the most recent game against Iona, Zyheima Swint led the Pride with a 14 point, 14 rebound double-double, as well as three assists. Sophomore shooter Emma Von Essen poured in 11 points, and Brooke Anya scored nine points while adding eight rebounds in the effort. The Achilles’ heel for Hofstra was the 18 turnovers in the loss.
Spanning the season, Sorelle Ineza and Von Essen are the Pride’s leading scorers, averaging 12.8 and 10.6 points per game, respectively. Swint pulls down ten rebounds per game on average.
The Rams are a Division III opponent and are members of the Skyline Conference. They also hold a 4-4 record on the season entering this game. Farmingdale State lost their last game by a score of 80-71 to Albertus Magnus College. Taneece Wooden was the Rams’ leading scorer in the losing effort with 21 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Layla Mendoza scored 20 points with nine rebounds.
Mendoza, Wooden and Gemma Pohalski are the three points-per-game leaders for the Rams. Mendoza averages 15.3, Wooden 14.6 and Pohalski 11.2.
This will be the first time Hofstra and Farmingdale State face each other in women’s basketball. Tip-off at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16.
