The Hofstra University softball team (29-26) will take on the University of California Golden Bears (33-21-1) in a do or die game in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament on May 20, 2023 in Norman. Okla. With both teams having lost their first games of the tournament. The loser of this game will see their tournament end.
Hofstra was defeated soundly in their first game by the No. 1 ranked University of Oklahoma Sooners. The 51-1 Sooners defeated the Pride 11-0 in five innings. The victory was the Sooners 44th straight victory this season. The Sooners dominated from the first pitch to the final out. Holding Hofstra to only one one hit through five innings.
The Golden Bears were also defeated in their first game, falling to the University of Missouri Tigers 5-1. Despite being down only 2-1 after the first inning, the Tigers were too much for the Golden Bears, holding them scoreless through the next seven innings while adding three more runs to bury the Golden Bears and take the game.
The loser of the contest between the Pride and Golden Bears will see their season end, while the winner will move on to take on the loser of Oklahoma vs Missouri. First pitch between Hofstra vs California will be at 5 p.m.
