After a brutal loss at the last second to close out 2022, the Hofstra men’s basketball team will look to quickly turn the page on the road against the Hampton University Pirates on Thursday evening.
Hofstra lost a heartbreaker on Dec. 31 against North Carolina A&T, 81-79, after NC A&T’s Tyrese Elliot tipped in the winning basket as the final buzzer sounded. The Pride led by as many as 11 points with less than 10 minutes remaining in the game.
“We got what we deserved,” said Hofstra head coach Speedy Claxton following the loss to NC A&T. “We thought we were going to come into this game and lay it down, but that wasn’t the case; we just didn’t put them away.”
Hofstra is now 1-1 against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and is tied for fifth place early into its conference schedule.
Hampton, meanwhile, is still in search of its first conference victory, having lost their first two CAA matchups. The Pirates sail into Thursday looking to snap a five-game losing streak after being defeated by UNC-Wilmington, 82-65, on Dec. 31.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Pride and Pirates in men’s basketball. The Pride is 3-4 so far this year on the road, while the Pirates yield a home record of 3-1.
Tip-off from the Hampton Convocation Center is set for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FloHoops, and 88.7 FM WRHU will carry an audio-only broadcast on the Hofstra Alternative Web Channel. Live stats can be found at GoHofstra.com.
