Food service at Hofstra changed hands on January 1, 2015, according to a press release issued by the university on January 14.
The contract previously held by Lackmann Culinary Services has been taken over by Compass Group, according to the release. The new management organization will function under the name “Campus Dining by Compass Group,” and will reportedly be implementing several changes in the upcoming semester.
According to the release, sent in an email to students Wednesday afternoon, Compass Group encompasses two organizations, Chartwells Dining and Bon Appétit Management Company, both of which will seemingly have a presence on campus next semester. Changes will include a new “fresh grill menu” in the Student Center, new options in Dutch Treats and expansion of the Mexican food station in the Student Center, Sono Kitchen.
Compass Group will also be working to evaluate dietary needs and menus, increasing communication with students and SGA in an effort to engage more with the community. Employees will retain their jobs and undergo “extensive retraining.”
“Hofstra community members deserve the very best when it comes to dining on campus, and we fully expect that the Compass Group team will deliver a high quality food service program for our community,” the press release said.
