On April 13 at 11:15 p.m., a Hofstra student stated that while she was at her ex-boyfriend’s off-campus house to visit their shared dog, the two got into an argument. When the female student reached for a ball in the windowsill, her ex-boyfriend began to slam the window on her right arm. After leaving the house, she drove to PS, where she requested that police respond. NCPD responded and after an investigation, arrested the ex-boyfriend who was identified as a male Hofstra student. He was charged with assault in the third degree, a misdemeanor. The female student was transported by ambulance to NUMC, where she was treated for a sprained arm and later released. The following day, she responded to the courts and received an Order of Protection against her ex-boyfriend. This investigation is ongoing.
On April 14 at 12:50 a.m., while on patrol, a PS officer observed three Hofstra students smoking marijuana in the Liberty/Republic Park area. The students were escorted into the Hofstra Information Center, where a backpack they were carrying was discovered to have contained a large Ziploc bag containing marijuana, a large bong and a black grinder which contained marijuana residue. The three students were issued referrals to OCS. The marijuana was turned over to NCPD for disposal and the backpack and bong are being held by PS.
On April 17 at 12:40 a.m., an RSR in Colonial Square West reported to PS that a Hofstra student was observed kicking over a cement garbage receptacle in the courtyard across from Jamestown House, damaging the receptacle. PS responded and issued a referral to OCS for criminal mischief. A work order was submitted to repair the damage.
On April 18 at 5:50 a.m., PS received a call that a male had been observed exiting the elevator inside Margiotta Hall. PS responded and discovered the male near the visitors’ locker room under the stands of James M. Shuart Stadium. The male was escorted into the Hofstra Information Center where he was identified as a non-student. When questioned, he stated that he lives in a shelter in Queens and had gotten lost in the area. The NCPD responded to the location and took custody of the male for trespassing. He was banned from campus.
On April 18, a Hofstra faculty member reported to PS that he had parked his vehicle in the parking lot south of Breslin Hall at 9:30 a.m. When he returned to the vehicle at 1:30 p.m., he discovered damages to the rear driver’s side fender and door. There were no witnesses. The Hempstead Police Department responded and prepared a report.
On April 21 at 10:18 p.m., a fire alarm was activated in Alliance Hall. Upon arrival, PS discovered that the alarm had been activated by someone using hairspray in a room. During the search, it was discovered that a student had failed to evacuate the building. The student was identified and issued a referral to OCS for failing to comply.
On April 22 at 3:45 a.m.,
PS received report of an activated fire alarm in Enterprise Hall. During the search, it was discovered that a smoke detector inside a room had been activated. PS entered the room and found it occupied by the two residents. There was a strong odor of marijuana inside the room, and empty bottles, cans of alcohol and vaping items were on a desk in plain view. No marijuana was recovered. Both residents were issued referrals to OCS for drug abuse violations and for failing to evacuate during a fire alarm.
