The Hofstra University women’s basketball team closes out the regular season against the North Carolina A&T State University Aggies. The Pride looks to snap a five-game losing streak on Saturday, March 9, before heading into the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) tournament.
Hofstra comes into the game sitting at a disappointing 3-14 in their conference. Currently, the Pride are the No. 12 seed in the CAA. On the other side of the hardwood, the Aggies have a strong 12-5 record in the conference, despite dropping their last two games. As it stands, North Carolina A&T are the No. 3 seed in the conference.
The last matchup between the Pride and the Aggies came last season during the CAA tournament, where Hofstra pulled off a shocking upset in a 66-59 win. The Pride was led by senior guard Sorelle Ineza who dropped a game-high 19 points on 7-12 shooting from the field. Hofstra was able to shoot 62.5% from three, which was a huge factor in the upset win.
Saturday’s matchup will be just the third time these two conference rivals have battled it out on the court. Hofstra and North Carolina A&T both have one win against each other.
The last five games have been a brutal stretch for the Pride, losing these games by an average of 15.4 points. The offensive has been a real struggle for Hofstra as of late, as in their last game, a 74-62 loss to Elon University, only two players were able to score in double figures. Hofstra is trying to break out of this shooting slump, but the shots continue not to fall. The Pride tied their season low on 3-point percentage in their last game, shooting a woeful .111% from behind the arc.
North Carolina A&T have had a successful season, continuing to stack these crucial conference games. The Aggies find themselves in a tie with the College of Charleston for the third spot in the final CAA standings.
The final CAA clash of the regular season is set for tip-off at 2 p.m. from the Corbett Sports Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
