Six days after announcing his intentions to run for a full term in office, New York Gov. David A. Paterson announced Friday that he will suspend his campaign and won’t seek election.
“There are times in politics when you have to know when not to strive for service, but to step back,” Paterson said during a press conference. The decision came amidst allegations that he interfered with a domestic abuse case involving one of his aides.
Responding to these allegations, Paterson said that he is “looking forward to a full investigation,” while promising that he has never abused his power or office, “not now, not ever.”
Paterson, who took office after the resignation of Eliot Spitzer, kicked off his campaign to a standing room only audience in the Student Center Multipurpose Room on Saturday, February 20.
