The Hofstra field hockey team defeated the Northeastern Huskies 3-0 on Friday afternoon, marking their 10th win in their last 11 games. Two goals from Claudia Marin Samper paved the way for the Pride.
Both teams’ offenses struggled in the first half, as Hofstra got four shots off while Northeastern had just one. The Pride got on the board at 23:56 on a rebound shot by Claudia Marin Samper. Neither team took another shot for the remaining 10 minutes of the first half.
The Pride came out hungry in the second half, shooting the ball more. At 45:15 the Pride extended their lead to 2-0 when Simca Schoen tipped in Claudia Marin Samper’s shot, utilizing a penalty corner. Hofstra was not finished yet and padded their lead to three at 51:02 on a hard shot by Claudia Marin Samper that deflected off of a Husky defender.
Defensively, Hofstra’s goalkeeper, Lauren Saltus, held down the fort for the Pride with four saves in the game. She improved to 3-0 after the game and has produced back-to-back shutout performances after getting the last three consecutive starts.
The Pride outshot the Huskies (4-12) with 10 shots on goal compared to the Huskies’ five. They also held the advantage on penalty corners 4-3.
Hofstra junior Claudia Marin Samper left her mark on this game, helping to create all three of the Pride’s goals. She currently leads the team with 17 goals and 14 assists. She is vital to the Pride’s success moving forward as they move to 12-4 overall and 2-1 in the CAA on the season.
