Hofstra headed west for the Bronx to face off against Fordham University but the Pride wasn’t able to string together the run support, losing 7-6 to the Rams.
The Fordham Rams struck first, scoring four runs in the first two innings, and two more in the bottom of the 4th. Fordham led 6-1 in the top of the 6th inning until the Pride put up a 5-spot, tying the game off three consecutive RBI singles from David Leiderman, Chris Weiss, and Brian MacDonald. Then MacDonald scored on a wild pitch and Brad Witkowski drove in the fifth run with another RBI single.
Fordham fought back and scored in the bottom half of the inning on a throwing error, which was the last run scored of the game at 7-6.
Hofstra relief pitcher Cody Olsen was credited with the loss, though he did not give up an earned run. Pride pitcher Patrick Bryant was given his first start this season, going 3.1 innings and gave up six runs.
Matthew Kozuch was the offensive powerhouse for Fordham. He went 3-for-5 with two doubles and four RBIs. David Manasek won his first game of the season, coming in relief for starter Cody Johnson. Manasek tossed 3.2 innings, allowing no runs and striking out five.
For Hofstra, Steven Foster continued his hot streak at the plate with two hits, scattering seven hits over a three game span. David Leiderman’s extended his hitting streak to nine games. Brad Witkowski went 2-for-3, finishing the game with three RBIs.
