In the first half of the Hofstra men’s basketball’s win over Columbia, Desure Buie went down with a knee injury.
Further testing has revealed that Buie has a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus in his left leg, Hofstra Athletics announced.
After sustaining the injury, Buie temporarily battled through the pain and remained in the game for a series before limping to the bench.
As of Sunday, head coach Joe Mihalich officially ruled Buie out for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.
“We feel terrible for Desure and wish him the best in his recovery,” Mihalich said (per gohofstra.com). “Desure was really starting to come into his own this season and his presence on the court will be missed.”
The sophomore guard appeared in the Pride’s first eight games of the season.
Heading into Tuesday’s game, Buie was averaging 3.1 points, 2.3 assists and 1.4 rebounds per contest while shooting at 70 percent from the free throw line.
Buie will play a key role for Hofstra next season, but for now, “he will be an important vocal leader from the bench for the remainder of this year as he recovers and prepares for the 2017-18 campaign,” Mihalich said.
