Warning: Spoilers Ahead!!
Months after season two’s cliffhanger, The CW show “Nancy Drew” has returned for its third season on Friday, Oct. 8. The Drew Crew is back and they are trying to figure out who is targeting Nancy and her family.
The CW show matures the well-loved novel series. Yet, there are references to the novels with Nancy’s friends George Fan and Bess Marvin. Plus, there is Ned “Nick” Nickerson who had a fling with Nancy in season one. The show adds a new character, Ace, who fans have theorized may actually be a Hardy boy.
The series started with Nancy still grieving the death of her mother, Kate Drew. She is once again forced into her mystery-solving days when Tiffany Hudson, the wife of Nancy’s biological father, is murdered in front of The Claw, the restaurant where Nancy works. Nancy is determined to figure out what happened to Tiffany because it affected everyone in her life. The show then went into supernatural territory when the Drew Crew tries to figure out what happened to Lucy Sable, Nancy’s biological mother, and they end up summoning the Aglaeca, a sea spirit. The Aglaeca caused all sorts of problems that led to an exciting season two.
Season two shows Nancy coming to terms with being the biological daughter of Lucy Sable and Ryan Hudson. It ended with Nancy’s ancestor, Temperance Hudson, stealing Nancy’s blood to restore her youth. The new season opens with Nancy giving an interview with Penn and Teller, saying how she plans to pay back all of the victims of her grandfather, Everett Hudson. It’s also revealed that she is hosting Horseshoe Bay’s Town Carnival and is ready to leave her town behind with hopes of attending Columbia University. While exploring the corn maze at the carnival, Nancy finds a dead body. After some investigating, it’s revealed that the victim was keeping tabs on all the living Hudsons. Most of the Drew Crew believe that Temperance Hudson is behind the murders because it’s not normal for a centuries old ancestor to return to the town from which she was banished for being evil. Nancy doesn’t believe Temperance is the murderer because it doesn’t fit and seems too obvious. Another body shows up, but this time it’s on Nancy’s car. While it may take the whole season to figure out the killer, Nancy and family are being targeted and the Drew Crew will solve the case.
After getting rejected from Columbia, it seems like Nancy will be staying in Horseshoe Bay. She feels disappointed because this was the push she needed to start living her life to its fullest potential. However, by the end of the episode, the rejection letter helps Nancy realize that Horseshoe Bay will always be her home and she has a place there.
The premiere showed some potential for the third season, especially with the couples. Hopefully, viewers will be able to see George and Nick’s wedding. This season may also push Nancy and Ace to finally confess their feelings for each other. Another relationship that should be explored is the one between Nancy and her fathers. Her biological father, Ryan Hudson, is living at the Drew house and learning to live responsibly. Carson Drew, Nancy’s adoptive father, is adjusting to Ryan living in his house.
This season looks promising and will keep viewers invested in the adventures of the Drew Crew.
