The Hofstra University women’s lacrosse team won 14-10 over the Marist College Red Foxes on Friday, March 8, at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, New York. The Pride improved to 3-3 on the season while the Red Foxes remain winless at 0-5.

In this game, the Pride was carried by Kerry Walser and Taylor Mennella, good for four goals apiece. Mennella’s outburst took place entirely in the second half. This was Walser’s second four-goal outing, as well as her fourth game in a row with at least one tally. The senior attacker now sits at 11 goals this season.

The Pride had a 7-3 lead within the first 20 minutes. After a rejuvenating halftime break, Hofstra came into the third quarter on fire, scoring four times to take a commanding 11-3 lead.

The high score in the Pride’s favor doesn’t mean that the Red Foxes rolled over. They outscored the Pride 7-3 and outshot them 11-4 towards the end of the game . Taylor Mennella’s two fourth-quarter goals and Melissa Sconone’s two points played a massive part in Hofstra holding onto their lead and preventing a Marist comeback.

Freshman attacker Kristen Redding and junior midfielder Emily Weigand rounded out the multi-point scorers with three and two points, respectively.

Hofstra goalie Luchianna Cardello set a new season high in saves with 11.

Marist was led offensively by a pair of graduate students, Kelly Trotta and Kerri Gutenberger. The pair accounted for seven of Marist’s 10 goals, with three and four, respectively. Another graduate student, Olivia Arntsen, assisted on three of the home team’s goals. Freshman attacker Greta Govoni added two goals and an assist for the Red Foxes.

Next up on the docket for Hofstra is the University of Connecticut Huskies, who sit at 1-4 on the season. Their game against Hofstra will take place on Tuesday, March 12, at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium at Rizza Performance Center in Storrs, Connecticut, with draw control set for 3 p.m.
