The Hofstra women’s soccer team poured in the goals on Saturday, March 27 in a 6-0 victory over the University of Delaware Fightin’ Blue Hens at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium in Newark, DE. Four Pride players found the back of the net in the team’s second win of Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.
Sabrina Bryan kicked things off for the Pride with an early goal to give them a 1-0 lead. 10 minutes into play, Miri Taylor sent a through ball from near midfield to the top of the box, which Bryan received and sent over the hands of Delaware goalkeeper Lauren Krinsky.
Just 3:17 later, Bryan returned the favor when she drove near the out-of-bounds line before sending a pass just outside the goal area. Taylor collected the pass, drove left and sent a shot under the outstretched leg of a Blue Hen defender and into the opposite corner of the net.
With just under nine minutes remaining in the first half, Taylor got to an errant kick by Delaware that sent the ball up in the air near the Blue Hens’ goal. She navigated her way through a slew of defenders and put a shot in the air that Krinsky successfully prevented, but she wasn’t able to hold onto the ball, allowing Alia Mentzell to swoop in for the Pride and capitalize to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Pride, however, still wasn’t done scoring in the first half. With six and a half minutes until halftime, Bryan sent a corner kick right to the net where Taylor headed it past Krinsky. It was the second goal of the match in which Taylor scored off an assist from Bryan, and the third in which that duo connected for a score.
Coming out of halftime, Bryan scored her second goal of the match at the 47:08 mark after Krinsky deflected a long attempt from Jordan Littleboy out of the goal. Bryan got to the rebound and weaved a shot through a number of Blue Hens to bring Hofstra’s lead to five goals.
The game-sealing goal came from Lucy Porter with less than 16 minutes remaining. On the left side of the box, she made an attempt at the goal but was met with a Delaware defender. The ball ricocheted into the air, and Porter got around the defender and got a foot on the ball just before it hit the ground to slide it into the bottom left corner of the net.
The Pride outworked Delaware throughout the match, taking 24 shots compared to just six from the Blue Hens. Bryan and Taylor finished with six points each. In goal, Skylar Kuzmich and Katrine Thisgaard combined to shutout Delaware, making three and two saves, respectively. Krinsky made 11 saves in goal for the Blue Hens.
The undefeated Pride will continue CAA action against Drexel University on Thursday, April 1 in Philadelphia, PA.
