The Hofstra women’s volleyball team won its fourth straight contest on Saturday, beating the University of Delaware three sets to none at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.
The Pride cruised through the first two sets, however; the Blue Hens attempted to make a comeback in the third set. Hofstra won the third and final set of the match by a score of 25-19.
“We played a good controlled match today,” said Hofstra head coach Emily Mansur. “I think we served really well, so we were able to stay in charge of the match and that’s always a good thing to see.”
Hofstra sophomore Nanishka Perez and freshman Laura Masciullo each had eight kills. Senior Veronika Kostova had seven kills. Freshman Luisa Sydlik had a total of 16 assists to go with her eight digs. Senior Hannah Klemm added 17 assists and sophomore Luisa Domingues had 12 digs.
For Delaware, freshman Maria Bellinger had nine kills, freshman Liz Tobey added 18 assists and senior Taylor Hollingsworth had seven digs.
Hofstra had a total of 38 kills, while Delaware had 27. The Pride overmatched the Blue Hens in the assist column by a 36-25 margin, but blocks were a bit of a problem. Delaware had eight blocks, while Hofstra only had three.
This win is the Pride’s fourth CAA win of the season.
Hofstra will be traveling this week to play Northeastern University next Saturday Oct. 15 at 4 p.m. The Huskies have started 5-1 in conference and are 15-5 on the season.
