ALBANY, NY — The Hofstra men’s soccer team has now dropped two consecutive contests after losing 4-1 to the University at Albany (UAlbany) Great Danes at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The game started off rough for Hofstra as they allowed three goals in the first half of play and went into the locker room with a 3-0 deficit.

The Pride tried to gain some momentum in the second half when junior Matthew Vowinkel scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season to make the score 3-1, but the Great Danes scored the last goal of the game in the 78th minute. However, the Pride outshot their opponents 15-13.

UAlbany scored its first goal of the game at the 12:42 mark and then followed up with another goal just 10 minutes later. Hofstra allowed UAlbany to score one more goal in the half, thanks to a blunder from the Pride’s defense, as a pass missed its target and went in Hofstra’s net for an own goal at the 27:17 mark.

Vowinkel then got on the board for Hofstra in the 62nd minute after scoring off a penalty kick. Then, Austin DaSilva for the Great Danes netted his second goal of the game after scoring on an empty Hofstra net off a steal 35 yards out.

Hofstra now moves to 5-6 on the season while UAlbany moves to 5-4-1. The Pride is 2-2 all-time against UAlbany. Alex Dudley made his first career start in net for the Pride and made three saves, while Micheal Kennedy for the Great Danes made five.

The Hofstra Pride will look to get back to .500 on Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel to Drexel University to play in a crucial Colonial Athletic Association matchup. The match starts at 4 p.m.
