Hofstra field hockey head coach Kathy De Angelis announced her resignation on Wednesday, Jan. 30, according to Hofstra Athletics. The school’s announcement said De Angelis stepped down “to pursue other business interests.”
“This was a very difficult decision to make, but I am confident the Pride program is in a great place,” De Angelis said to Hofstra Athletics. “I am incredibly thankful for the amazing opportunity that Hofstra has given me. I feel so fortunate to have worked with an amazing group of student-athletes throughout my tenure at the University. There is something really special about being a Hofstra Field Hockey alum and they will forever be a part of my life. Hofstra will always hold a special place in my heart and I wish only the best for the program in the future.”
De Angelis has been at the helm of the program since 1998, compiling a 200-210 overall record in her 21 years as head coach for the Pride.
“De Angelis has been a model of dedication and service to the Pride program and her student-athletes since her arrival at Hofstra in 1998,” Director of Athletics Rick Cole Jr. said to Hofstra Athletics. “We are extremely appreciative of her efforts for Hofstra University over the past 21 seasons and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors.”
De Angelis led the Pride to a winning record in 11 of the last 18 seasons, including six straight winning seasons between 2001 and 2006.
Last season, the Pride were 5-13 overall and 2-4 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) matchups, good for No. 6 in the conference.
De Angelis coached four All-Americans and one CAA Player of the Year during her tenure.
Her replacement has not yet been announced.
