Hofstra men’s soccer fell to Ohio State in a 1-0 shortened game on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 26, at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The game was shortened in the 84th minute due to a lightning delay and travel restrictions. It was Hofstra’s second and final game of the Wolstein Classic. They tied 2-2 with the University of Dayton in the first game on Friday. 

The Pride put two shots on goal early in the first half but were unable to convert any of their chances against the Buckeyes. 

In the 65th minute, Jake Scheper put Ohio in front off a penalty kick that went past Alex Ashton. Ashton made five saves to keep it a one-goal game.

Lightning in the area caused a delay in the 84th minute, which marked the end of the game. 

Ashton’s 12 saves over the weekend earned him a spot on the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Matthew Vowinkel, who had a goal in the previous game against Dayton, has earned a spot. 

With the loss, Hofstra is now 0-1-1 to begin the season. 

Peter Meyer and Vowinkel had Hofstra’s two shots on goal, while freshman Hendrik Hebbeker, junior Luke Brown and Meyer also contributed two shots each. 

The Pride is back in action on Thursday when they continue their season-opening road trip at  No. 21 Colgate University at 5 p.m.
