The Hofstra women’s basketball team defeated the Siena College Saints on Friday, Dec. 21, to earn their second win in a row. The Pride came out on top with a score of 57-50, which lifts Hofstra to a 5-6 record.

“I was very proud with how we came out,” said Hofstra head coach Krista Kilburn-Steveskey.

Coming into the game, Hofstra hadn’t played a game since Sunday, Dec. 9, when it took down University of Maryland Baltimore County. Both the Pride and the Saints were 4-6 before the matchup.

Hofstra came out firing early. At the end of the first quarter, the Pride led the Saints with a commanding 17-6 lead. From then on, there was no looking back. Hofstra had a 26-17 lead at the end of the first half, and they never let that lead go.

Senior guard Boogie Brozoski led the Pride with 20 points.

Alongside Brozoski, Hofstra’s bench helped the team to victory. Jaylen Hines had seven boards and three steals off the bench, which helped to play a large part in the team’s defense.

“[Hines is] tough,” Kilburn-Steveskey said.

Also coming off the bench was Mikiyah Croskey. In her 15 minutes, she went four-for-four in field goals and put up eight points, which was third most on the team.

“I thought we defended well,” Kilburn-Steveskey said.

Defensively, Hofstra contributed nine steals and three blocks. The Pride also held Siena to 50 points on 17 out of 57 field goal attempts. The Pride’s defensive play made it difficult for the Saints to get anything going offensively.

However, despite Hofstra’s successes, there were still things that lacked in the team’s all-around play. While Siena was able to successfully haul in 15 offensive boards, Hofstra only managed four.

“We had a couple opportunities that we could have executed a little bit better,” Kilburn-Steveskey said.

“It was just great to get the win on the road.”

Now sitting at 5-6, Hofstra is No. 8 in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with conference play set to begin on Friday, Jan. 4.

The Pride will host Wilmington University on Saturday, Dec. 29, in their final non-conference game. This is their first home game back at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex since Thursday, Nov. 29. They look to make it their third win in a row.
