So what’s your name?
-Amanda Beneway.
What year are you in?
-I’m a junior!
What’s your major?
-I’m a psychology major and a sociology minor.
So what would you say is your ever day style?
-Nautical (giggles).
Within the nautical theme do you stick in certain color palate?
-I wear a lot of navy and red and white. I like stripes.
Where did you come up with this nautical theme?
-I was really into pin-up and I just seemed to find a niche in the sailor look.
If you aren’t feeling nautical do you do anything else?
-I also wear a lot of floral dresses. Most times I have more than one costume change a day. I don’t wear pants ever. I only have one pair of pants. I went from the beginning of fall semester last year to Halloween without wearing pants.
So do you have any style icons you follow?
-Jayne Mansfield and Katy Perry.
Where do you buy your clothing?
-I got this top from modcloth.com but I got it at Buffalo exchange in Brooklyn for like $10; it’s also where I got my shoes.
The hat?
-The hat I got on the internet because I specifically wanted a captain’s hat. It catches the eye.
Seeing as you’re are regularly dressed in nautical clothing to you ever reenact sailor movies in the privacy of your own room?
-I drink a lot and I curse a lot.
Is this as pirate as you get?
-Pirates are dumb. I don’t “arrrgh” ever.
So is every day sort of like dress up?
-Definitely.
Are we trying to impress anyone?
-My fans (giggles).
Do you have a cult following?
-Huge following; everyone loves me. No! Don’t put that in. A lot of people look forward to seeing my outfits.
Outside of fashion what are some of your other interests?
-I am the President of the Progressive Students Union, which is a grass roots activism club. I do Food Not Bombs every Sunday.
What’s Food Not Bombs?
-We give away food to people in need who live in Hempstead. It’s the discarded food from grocery stores.
