Much of the 2009-10 season for the Pride men’s and women’s golf team has been spent in the rough and sand traps. 

The men’s golf team has not had the best season it could hope for. Out of its first seven tournaments of the season, the Pride have finished dead last in six of them and finished 12 out of 13 teams at the Rehoboth Beach Invitational on Sept. 28, 2009. A reason for the slow start this season is potentially due to the lack of experience on the team. Of the five members, three are freshman, Connell McNamara, Harry Poster and Andrew Roberts, while two are sophomores Chris Davis and Justin Nash.

Hofstra will look to freshman Connell McNamara, who has been leading the Pride in scoring all season, to help improve the play of the team. Head coach Joe Elliott and the squad can hopefully use this year to gain valuable experience and come back in better shape next year.

McNamara leads the team with a  plus 10 average. Poster and Roberts both have an average of plus 16 for the year.

The women’s team hasn’t seen much success either, but until their twenty-first place finish at the C&F Bank Intercollegiate on March 20-21, they were able to stay out of the cellar. All other tournaments ended in mid-place finishes. Head coach Maren Crowley in her second season as the head coach, is looking to bring the winning touch to the Pride, as she was a four-year letter winner for the women’s golf team. The Pride will look to the play of senior Allie Hanlon and junior Amy Hoffman, to help carry the team to the CAA Championships in Virginia.
